I am a Bead Hoarder

I had been in a bit of a funk when I signed up for Lori Anderson’s Bead Hoarders Blog Hop. I was hoping it would kick my butt into gear and get me creating again. Unfortunately, this is not the case, as I have slipped into a bout of depression that has sapped all my creative juices. This is not unusual, but normally I am able to fight through it. I’m sorry to say that I haven’t been able to do so thus far.

I probably should have asked Lori to remove me from the hop list, but I kept waiting to see if I could find a spark of creativity and get something made. Hopefully, no one is too upset that I couldn’t complete the challenge. Even just having this post done on time, I consider a win ;)
I do have some photos of my favorite beads that I have been hoarding and was thinking it would be neat to hear your ideas of what you’d create with them? If you feel so inclined, of course.

  2. Thanks for sharing your stash! Please take care of yourself, and your muse should find its way back to you! I would love to see the pendant with the pink flowers with the pink lamp work bead in some way.

  3. My husband is bi-polar so I understand how hard it can be to do anything when you are in the middle of a bout of depression. Just remember it will pass and when it does post what you make with those lovely beads :-)

  4. Nice collection! Hope you feel better soon :)

  5. You have my sympathies with the depression. I hope you can work your way through it soon. You've got some beauties waiting for you there.

  6. Get well soon. Gorgeous hoarded beads and excellent photos. Take care, Ana

  7. I love just seeing your beads, so thank you for sharing. I actually have a similar brown wooden bead with rhinestones. I just made it into a simple pendant and wear it on a chain because I thought it was pretty on its own, but I'd love to see what you eventually make with it! Take care of yourself; I wish you well.

  8. I love the white and blue shell one. I'd mix it with antique brass chain, gold druzys and some turquoise Swarovskis. Maybe a few odd shaped cultured pearls too.

  9. Gah, what can I say? I'd be hoarding those treasures too! The owl. . .the resin pendant. . .the keys!! They're gorgeous. With that, I wish you good luck on getting something made with them. I wish I had more input for you though. . .sorry.

  10. I found it interesting that your first photo looks a little like a smiling face, Rochelle... is that a nudge from your Muse, perhaps? Right away I am picking out the seashell pendant and the blue pair as a possible connection, perhaps a little silk ribbon to lend it a summery look? I know when I am struggling to design something, I often choose one main colour or component to work from. Sometimes having TOO MUCH selection is counter-productive and overwhelms me. I hope with time and self-care, your outlook will improve, and you will once again feel that tickle of interest in creating a little beauty!

  11. I think it's fabulous that you went ahead and posted anyway - and posted something that you love, to boot! I know first hand how very hard and energy-sapping depression can be, and that it can wholly steal your love to create... and how sometimes it feels like it won't come back. But it will, it always does, and I really hope it's soon for you, too. I immediately saw a bracelet with the seashell and the two middle lamp worked beads together, myself. I think they're gorgeous and would really show each other off. :) Blessings and hopes that you feel more like yourself soon.

  13. So been there with the soul sucking, Muse eating bouts of depression. I have SAD and live the Pacific Northwest. Not the best combo to keep my spirits up. Thank goodness I discovered that Vitamin D helps my mood. I agree with the other commentors, the seashell and the blue lampwork beads shout out to be paired. The owl (so cute) would look good paired with one of the keys - the middle one looks best - just on a simple chained piece.

  14. I love your owl and the keys.. I have a few keys as well, but have no clue what to do with them.. Maybe that should be my next project. LOL As for the depression, they just started me on some meds that make me feel worse. Back to the dr I go. Hope you feel more like yourself soon hun. Hugs.

  15. Thank you so, so much for posting some pictures of your stash... Your beads are simply lovely, and I greatly enjoyed seeing them!

Also, I certainly understand how damaging depression can be on creativity... You have my complete sympathy. I hope that things start looking up for you soon... And, if there's anyway that we on the internet can help, please let us know. :)

  16. Your beads are lovely. I suffer from depression as well so I understand how difficult it can be. And you're right, just getting the post done is a big win. I hope you find you muse soon. **hugs** to you.

  17. Hi Rochelle! Yes I agree I have a lot of respect for you to go ahead and show your great stash. I was depressed for over a year and did no work~so I can relate to you. Sometimes I believe there is a healing when we just take a break and "be quiet" inside. One day the little butterfly finds her way out again. Things won't stay that way and your MUSE she will return. As I was gone for a good bit I feel rejuvenated again and stronger. I would take that Jade Scott Meringue and sprinkle a wire wrapped with yellow and pink something's. You will *know* those beads when you see them for it! Chin up Miss R! Well all still be here when you get back with all Smiles for you! ox

  20. Your time will come when you are ready, then you can show off your creations. Your mix is amazing, and I am sure once you are ready to create again, it too will be amazing. A good friend of mine has depression and I know it can be difficult at times. Do what you can when you can... :-)
