Bead Soup Reveal!

Welcome! Today is the reveal day for the Bead Soup Blog Party. Below are the beads that I received from my party partner, Dyanne. My challenge was to create something using what she sent me. I completed three pieces, although I had planned to finish one more, I ran out of time. I had a lot of fun and really enjoy the pieces that I created. Thanks Dyanne! And a huge thanks to Lori Anderson, our amazing hostess for the party.

The beads I sent to Dyanne.

The beads Dyanne sent me.

The first bead I picked up was the awesome Jade oval donut pendant. I just love working with this shape! I wire wrapped it and paired it on a necklace with Rainbow Fluorite, Quartz and Aventurine. I had some Jade discs in my stash, so I also created matching earrings.

The second necklace I created starts with a wire wrapped pendant made of a White Quartz disc, shell ceramic art bead (anyone know the artist?), and a tear drop shaped shell. The pendant hangs from a strand of Swarovski crystals and Czech glass accenting the White Quartz beads from Dyanne and two ceramic beads by Splendid Loon Studio. I used Terracast pewter and sterling silver beads, along with undyed waxed linen cording to complete the necklace, giving it a nice beachy feel.

I had such an amazing time participating in another edition of the Bead Soup Blog Hop. Be sure to check out the other participants blogs!

Bead Soup: What I received

I have joined the 8th Annual Bead Soup Blog Party! For this round, I have been paired with the super talented Sue Kennedy of SueBeads! How lucky am I? Sue sent me a beautiful bead soup, filled with her handmade glass beads in my favorite shades of blue. The focal is just gorgeous!

Check out that jeweled box clasp.. and those bird charms by Menagerie Studio.. Stunning! I already have tons of ideas circling in my head!

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Sue for such a perfect bead soup! I am so grateful for her gift. Be sure to stop by her blog and see the beads I sent.

But now I must go create!

Holiday Ornament Swap

Today is Sally's 3rd Annual Holiday Ornament Swap reveal! I was partnered with the talented Jeanette and we swapped ornaments. Jeanette soldered and hand stamped a cute snowman into being, just for me! I love his fuzzy red scarf and the hat bead by Jennifer Jangles. Thank you, Jeanette, Mr. Snowman is the perfect addition to my tree!

This is the ornament that I sent to Jeanette. I created the square polymer clay bead and also the "joy" charm. I also incorporated blue Swarovski crystals and a large vintage crystal for some sparkle!

A stay-cation in Mystic, CT

Welcome to my reveal for the 2nd Annual Challenge of Travel blog hop! Erin has challenged us to stay-cation, where we experience the local attractions close to home.

Today I'll be taking you on a trip to the famous Mystic, CT. This shoreline town is not only full of beautiful scenery but it's also rich in history, making it a popular tourist destination in the summer months. You may have already heard of my small town because of a popular movie called Mystic Pizza, staring Julia Roberts. The Mystic Pizza restaurant is right in the heart of downtown, where you can grab a slice and do some great shopping!

This store is owned by a woman who shares my name! It's such a cool boutique.

Running through downtown Mystic is a river, and if you want to cross by car or foot, at 40 minutes past the hour, you will have to stop and wait for the drawbridge to rise. Built in 1920, this bascule style swing bridge is one of the oldest of its type still in operation and is quite a sight to see!

I look forward to the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival every year. It's the largest around and runs all weekend long! This year the weather was just beautiful and the amazingly talented artists were plentiful. We also enjoyed some tasty New England summer foods.

Clam Fritters!

There are so many other great attractions in Mystic too. At the Seaport, you can learn about the old sailing ships and experience what maritime life was like!

If you're a regular reader, you may remember that my high school reunion was held at the Mystic Aquarium. Who doesn't love sea lions and penguins? :)

Now, let's get to the jewelry! I created a necklace for this challenge that was inspired by the tall sailing ships. I had a vintage brass stamping that I hung from brass chain. I then created a sort of "ocean" with multiple strands of seed beads in shades of blue and turquoise.

I hope I have peaked your interest about my area of the world, and just maybe I'll see ya around!

I am a Bead Hoarder

I had been in a bit of a funk when I signed up for Lori Anderson’s Bead Hoarders Blog Hop. I was hoping it would kick my butt into gear and get me creating again. Unfortunately, this is not the case, as I have slipped into a bout of depression that has sapped all my creative juices. This is not unusual, but normally I am able to fight through it. I’m sorry to say that I haven’t been able to do so thus far.

I probably should have asked Lori to remove me from the hop list, but I kept waiting to see if I could find a spark of creativity and get something made. Hopefully, no one is too upset that I couldn’t complete the challenge. Even just having this post done on time, I consider a win ;)
I do have some photos of my favorite beads that I have been hoarding and was thinking it would be neat to hear your ideas of what you’d create with them? If you feel so inclined, of course.
