Challenge Complete!

Yesterday I finished my January Earring Challenge. Whew, what a challenge it was! It was interesting to see how daily life effected my creative side. I was very excited and motivated in the beginning, but started to lose steam about a third of the way through. I pushed onward, even if my earrings were very simple for a few days. I was able to get my enthusiasm back for the last week or so, and tried to go out with a bang!

What I learned:
1. I like to switch up my work. Towards the end of the month I was getting very antsy! I am proud that I stuck with this challenge, but can't wait to make a damn necklace!

2. I need to use my sketchbook more! Throughout the month, I kept a sheet for brainstorming and sketching out possible designs. Some of the designs are totally new to me, others were specific to beads I already have. I found this to be particularly helpful on days when I struggled to create something.

3. Photography. I have always struggled with taking good photos, but with time and practice, I am getting better. Having to take so many photos, with inadequate natural lighting because of the season, I was really forced to work with my lighting and displays. I learned what worked and what didn't. Now, I can take photos quicker and with less editing.

I had a lot of fun with this and will certainly be doing another challenge soon!

January Challenge: Day 15 - 19

I am definatly behind in posting my daily pair of earrings. In order to catch up a bit, I tried to take a few photos at work today. Without my usual equipment, the quality in these last few is really lacking. Please forgive me :)

January Earring Challenge: Day 9 and 10

It seems that there is a bug going around, and of course, I had to catch it. These next two designs are simple, as I haven't had the energy to do much the last few days.

Day 9: Filigree squares. Pearls and olive glass beads.

Day 10: Blue czech glass crystals and sterling silver chain.

January Earring Challenge: Day 4 - 6

Am I still able to say I'm meeting my goal if I didn't make any earrings one day, but made two pairs the next day? :)

Day 4 - Handmade clay beads and Czech glass.

Day 5 - Handmade lampwork beads, Iolite and Czech glass.

January Earring Challenge: Day 2 and 3

I've said it before and I'll say it again; I'm having trouble finding the time, during limited day light hours, to take photos. Even though these earrings below are from the 2nd and 3rd day of the challenge, I have been keeping up and meeting my goal! Tomorrow is Saturday (Woohoo!) so I'll take photos of the other earrings then :)

Some people, who have done similar challenges themselves, find that the first day was hard. My trouble started on the second day. I have had these chunky quartz pieces out on my table for a while and I knew I wanted to make a pair of earrings with them. The image in my mind was edgy; Chain wrapped and knotted around the stones. But, it didn't take long before I got frustrated and moved on lol I finally settled for something a little more fancy. I like these earrings, but they don't compare to my original idea, so I will have to give that a second try soon.

Quartz gemstones and faceted glass beads

These chandeiler style earrings were boucing around in my head for a few days, but I wasn't sure I really like them. So when I finally decided to make them for the 3rd day of the challenge, I was really surprised. I LOVE THEM! I think I may even feature this design in other colors in my etsy shop.
